Brief Introduction: This is my Harry Potter cast for all of my HP stories, but the photos are specifically intended for my Elysium fic. For “Through Emerald Eyes” or other Potter fics I’ve written, simply look at the templates below but alter their age to fit the appropriate time in any given story. I’ll be the first to admit that these actors and actresses don’t always fully embody the look or feel I’m going for in a character, but they’re as close as I can get to an actual visualization on paper/screen. Sometimes I won’t be satisfied with the choices, but may post them regardless. Other times I might have based a character off of that actual individual in the first place. If you have an established image of what these characters look like and don’t want to risk scarring it, you might not want to look at these choices simply because it’ll stick in your head and it might ruin your version of the character(s). If you want to indulge me fully and understand what and who I’m seeing when I write, proceed. By all means, do whatever floats your boat. Also, further casting suggestions are always welcome with me, so please offer feedback.
I pride myself on the fact that I didn’t half-ass my “casting”. I purposely forwent anyone overly popular or famous if I could afford it. You'll find that Americans will be few and far in-between here, unless a given individual just really fit the part well. I really wanted British characters played by British people, and if I failed to find an ideal match, then I’d settle for another European offset. I'm a stickler like that for authenticity. I also avoided making the common mistake of casting “basic hotties” or whatnot for my female characters. While all the primary women in my story are more or less attractive, I admit, they’re not all swimsuit models or eighties stars that everyone forgot about with the exception of their bodies. That’s a common pitfall when it comes to fan casting these days. I desired a subtle approach to my story, featuring truly beautiful women that I find in real life on an everyday basis; women who fit the character they will be encompassing in my head instead of women with large breasts and far too much tanning. Again, this is not because said women are unattractive, but because they’re just not what I’m going for and I doubt I'd be taken seriously thinking with my other head like others sometimes do. Whether the women in my story are petite, thin, tall, aristocratic, elegant, etc - I made it so that the visualization manifested (aka, the actress) fit the character and vice versa. Not for the sake of their bodies or lack thereof. Likewise, I avoided choosing an array of male actors who look thirty and feature chiseled chests and Adonis abs. I hope you lot acknowledge the added effort I put into this and don’t write my cast list off so easily. Merp.
Harry Potter
(Daniel Radcliffe)

Reason for Casting: Harry is a different animal in this series as opposed to his canon counterpart. He’s tougher, smarter, far better with the fairer sex, and lives life with no illusions of normalcy. Essentially, as much as the archaic term bothers me, Harry is a darker and more practical character in my story. On one hand, I utterly need to change Harry to match the stressful and surreal circumstances he'll be undergoing. I want the Harry in my story to be a character I not only love, but also hate at times. Most importantly, I want him to be someone the readers and I can relate to. On the other, I hate changing Harry too much, as what made me fall in love with the canon series in the first place was the character of Harry Potter - the idea of that funny, heroic, and enduring person being real. Well... that and the really cool magical world and the prospect of going to Hogwarts as a kid.
Point is, certain traits in his character are what made him such a sweet protagonist and in turn defined the tone of the series. To stray too far from that, to deviate from everything canon related, would be suicide to the character and the mythos. Thus, there will still be a fair amount of the old Harry in my version. Not much, but enough to not have him be a complete OC. Balancing these two factors will be an interesting challenge. Just because this Harry retains some of his innocence towards his family, he is by no means a good person. He's morally ambiguous; a selfish, flawed, and desperate character with the outward appearance of being in control. He's essentially a scared kid trying to step out of a shadow cast by a man twelve years dead. It's a taxing role and I needed a visual actor who I could see embodying these traits emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically.
Enter Daniel Radcliffe, someone we're all intimately familiar with. The sense of ‘wonder’ consistently found in Radcliffe's eyes - sometimes it’s sharp, sometimes it’s soft, but it’s always present - played a key role in my decision to keep him on as the face of the Wizarding World in my imagination. Truly, his height aside (something I used to relate to) Radcliffe is a mans man - comfortable in his awkward shoes. I approached this casting choice like I do most other films - a character can always bulk up or slim down if driven to, but they may not always be naturally compatible or talented enough to tackle the mentality of the tile. The man can be taller in my vision, more athletic (not that he isn't in great shape already), but other actors can't quite capture the duality I find in his eyes. Also Daniel’s slight resemblance to a young Crouch Jr. is pivotal to the story. Like I said previously, I'm a subtle guy.
